I løpet av de siste 60 årene har barns og foreldres dagligliv endret seg drastisk. Barnehagen har blitt til en kommunal ytelse, og barnehagepedagogikkens vilkår er helt forandret. Barnehagens opprinnelse, styring og praksis tar for seg historie, konflikt og motstand knyttet til barnehagens framvekst, virke og innhold. Forfatteren belyser barnehagens røtter og misjon i Europa og dens utbygging i Norge, og stiller aktuelle spørsmål om ytre styring og politiske lov- og rammeverk. Statlig styring med rammeplan, reformer og kartlegging når ikke alltid målene. Barnehagenes arbeid må bygges ut fra de lokale praktiske problemene for å finne utgangspunkter og løsninger. During the last 60 years, the daily lives of children and parents have changed drastically. The kindergarten has become a municipal benefit, and the conditions of kindergarten pedagogy have completely changed. The kindergarten's origins, management and practice deal with history, conflict and resistance linked to the nursery's development, operation and content. The author sheds light on the kindergarten's roots and mission in Europe and its development in Norway, and asks current questions about external governance and political laws and frameworks. State management with a framework plan, reforms and mapping does not always achieve the goals. The work of the nurseries must be based on the local practical problems in order to find starting points and solutions.
