This September, the historic studio and home of Per Kirkeby at Haabet on the island of Læsø will host Per's Court, a two-person exhibition by Irish artist Eamon O'Kane and Dutch artist Marlous Borm. The exhibition takes place in Kirkeby's former tennis court, a site of both play and discipline, reimagined as a temporary exhibition space.
Per's Court presents the outcome of O'Kane and Borm's residency at Læsø AIR - Per Kirkeby Studio, where both artists have been working in close dialogue with the architecture, history, and atmosphere of Haabet.
Marlous Borm exhibits a series of small-scale acrylic paintings on canvas, continuing her distinctive weaving-based technique. Her works intertwine painted surface and textile sensibility, creating luminous, tactile compositions that oscillate between structure and gesture.
Eamon O'Kane presents a body of abstract acrylic airbrush works on paper and masonite, inspired by the windows of Kirkeby's house and studio. These works meditate on transparency, reflection, and the passage of light, echoing the rhythms of the architecture and the natural environment that surrounds Haabet.
Together, O'Kane and Borm approach the legacy of Per Kirkeby through homage and resonance as they both feel deeply priviliged to have had the opportunity to live and work together at Haabet. Their works inhabit the thresholds of memory, material, and space, creating new dialogues between surface, form, and perception within the charged setting of the tennis court.
The exhibition is part of Læsø AIR's ongoing program, which invites international artists to live and work at Haabet, engaging with Per Kirkeby's artistic and architectural legacy in situ.
